On the following pages we want to present the technology of the VW Type 4 - known as the VW 411 or VW 412.
The most important things at a glance:
Our vehicles have an air-cooled 4-cylinder boxer engine in the rear, cast iron single cylinder, central camshaft and overhead valves, which are controlled via pushrods and rocker arms.
The gearbox is a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox. In the automatic version: hydrodynamic converter, with 3-speed planetary gear.
The VW Type 4 have a self-supporting all-steel body. The brakes are dual-circuit hydraulic, disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
A heater was standard. On request there was a sunroof, small triangular opening windows in the front doors and, in the case of the Variant, also rear opening windows.
